Kiwanis Club helps ‘Earth Angels’ and Flag Football

In the spirit of giving, the San-Cap Kiwanis Club continued its support for “Earth Angels.” 

Council appoints Harrity to fill vacant city seat
Former Sanibel mayor, public servant and restaurateur Martin “Marty” Harrity will fill the City Council seat left vacant Monday, when former councilwoman Carla Brooks Johnston’s resignation became effective. 


City Manager Judie Zimomra, right, administered the oath of office Tuesday to newly appointed Sanibel City Councilman Marty Harrity. Harrity will fill the seat left vacant by the resignation of Carla Brooks Johnston until the General Election in March 2009.

Another city position slashed, minimum salaries lowered

Making good on a promise to cut city expenses whenever possible, city staff eliminated another full-time position with the City Council’s approval on Tuesday, saving about $60,000 annually in salary and benefit expenses.

IWA chief defends proposed water rate increase to council

Defending the need for an 18 percent increase in water utility rates, Island Water Association general manager Rusty Isler delivered a presentation to the Sanibel City Council on Tuesday that illustrated the necessity of the rate increase for council members with facts, figures, bar charts and graphs.
